Women for Habitat Mission Statement

We believe everyone deserves a decent affordable place to live. It is our mission to empower women from all walks of life to make a difference in the housing crisis facing families and individuals in our community by:

  • Recruiting women and training them with construction skills; thereby instilling them with confidence in their abilities
  • Raising the necessary funds required to build houses
  • Building houses with primarily women volunteers
  • Contributing to the affiliate’s overall volunteer resource needs

Women for Habitat (WFH) have completed 13 homes in Louisville since 1995 and are planning their 14th build in 2010.

Join us Friday, September 24th 6-9 pm at Just Creations for some “shopping with a purpose!” Your shopping will benefit Women for Habitat and the groups supported by this non-profit. Fair Trade chocolate goodies will also be available!

Unlike a typical retail store, Just Creations is a not-for-profit organization governed by a volunteer Board of Directors. An Executive Director manages shop operations along with a small team of paid employees. However, you may notice that most of the staffing and support work for Just Creations is accomplished by more than 30 volunteers.

As a member of the Fair Trade Federation, Just Creations is committed to promoting the social and  economic progress of people in the developing regions of the world, including Asia, Africa, and Latin  America. Just Creations purchases exclusively from Fair Trade Organizations such as Ten Thousand Villages, SERRV, and Equal Exchange. These groups work directly with artisans and farmers to ensure that Fair Trade principles are practiced.

Just Creations is located at 2722 Frankfort Avenue, Louisville KY 40206. Click their logo to visit their website.

If you would like to help out with Women for Habitat by joining a building, walking on the team, purchasing a t-shirt or simply giving a donation, please contact us via email at womenforhabitat@louisvillehabitat.org.

Habitat for Humanity homes are sold with zero profit. Homeowners contribute "sweat equity" and house payments are placed in a rotating fund to build additional houses.
